Featured Works

Kathak is the exhilarating rhythmic dance of North India, and its spinning, stamping, storytelling swirl makes for one of the most dynamic theatre arts experiences on the planet.  With classical roots that extend beyond the ancient temples and the Moghul courts of India, Kathak is an art form that matches rapid fire footwork (with ankles wrapped in 20 pounds of bells) to the lightning strokes of the tabla drums.  Megan Black is a gifted narrator with a unique approach to original choreography drawing upon sources such as the poetry of Hafiz, Rumi and Mirabai. Original music is composed and performed by Ross Kent who’s passionate embrace of the sarode has spanned 39 years. Gregg Johnson is a leading American exponent of the Farukabhad school of tabla and pakawaj, a style known for its intimate connection with the Kathak tradition.

NewTown is delighted to be working alongside the Folly Bowl, one of the jewels of landscape architecture in Southern California.  It is an idyllic site to enjoy a dynamic art form rarely seen or heard outside of India.
